...12/29/02: the Lord of the Rings sequel passed $200 million at the North American box office on Sunday...with overall business boosted by the Christmas holiday, The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers was the first choice of moviegoers in its second weekend....the sequel grossed $48.9 million for the Dec. 27-29 period, according to estimates issued by its distributor, New Line Cinema...after 12 days, the film has tallied $200.1 million...The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring took an extra week to break that barrier...the family fantasy is also doing strong overseas, and its worldwide total is estimated at between $390 & $400 million...the movie has been nominated for the Golden Globe Best Picture...
12/29/02: the New England Patriots beat the Miami Dolphins in OT, 27-24!
...after the game, both teams have a 9-7 win/loss record...they waited anxiously for the outcome of the AFC East rival New York Jets' later game against the visiting Green Bay Packers...a Jets victory would leave both New England and Miami out of the playoffs...and the fat lady has finally sung!...the Jets beat the Packers, 42-17...it is finally over for the NE Patriots, who end the season in a 3-way tie for first place in the AFC Eastern Division...
...sleeping in clothes to keep warm...12/30/02: 33 degrees at 5 AM...woke up later on 12/31/02...temp was 28 degrees @ 7:45 AM...Brad made a peach pie; much, much better than store bought...
...12/30/02: our big boss, Pat, asked us to get stamping machines, which will automatically update, in order to keep track of when billing sheets or cards arrive, and from where...Geri said we can use the small ones that we have...however, many people in the office have a similar stamp, so they could put a date on a billing sheet before it reaches our area!...Geri left early (before 1), and Cassandra left at 1:30...my last walk at lunch was around the UNM campus...I stayed until 4 PM...
...N Korea is considered a grave, but not crisis situation, in spite of it pulling out of a global nuclear arms agreement pact...
"I don't think so!"
...2002 has been a year of hell!...I first wrote heal by mistake...but that was a Freudian slip, since it was definitely a time of healing, too...it has had too many ups & many, many downs...financial struggles continued from beginning to end...the problems were physical, emotional & psychological...too much pressure, too much stress...too much crying, not enough smiling (there were not many reasons to smile)...good news was laced with something bad, most of the time...how many people have their co-worker attempt suicide in front of them?...there were many days filled with depression, periods of crying, upset stomachs with excessive vomiting & suicidal tendencies; but, as we end 2002, I am trying not let these situations overpower me...it was time we needed & asked for help, and we accepted anything that was offered to us in terms of assistance...
...who will be the first pediatrician on the 2003 I/P schedule?...
...12/31/02...planes will not be able to fly over lower Manhattan or the Statue of Liberty until 4AM on 1/1/03...2002 was a year with many company bankruptcies due to corporate scandals...
...12/31/02: this is it!...the end of the year!...I was so awake that I poured milk into the tonic water (not bad, milk with a fizz!)...the cable went off before 10AM...there must have been a hungry or hyperactive squirrel in the complex...
...the year also ends with new bus schedules...a Lomas bus arrives at the same time my Central bus reaches downtown...so it is a fast walk (or run) to catch that bus...otherwise, the next bus is 22 minutes later...and there is no Montgomery/Carlisle bus until after the second Lomas bus arrives!...a similar situation presents itself at the end of the day...
...at the end of the year, President Bush & Sec'y Powell have toned down their rhetoric regarding war with Iraq...they will try peaceful methods to end the conflict (for now!)...and while Sec'y Rumsfeld believe we can fight & win a 2-front battle of Iraq & N Korea, the Pentagon does not share his opinion...the worst case scenario is if the US went to war with Iraq, then engaged in a battle with N Korea at a later date, but while still fighting Iraq...as of now, all mailboxes have been removed from Times Square...there is a possible, but unclear threat to NY harbor...
...on a lighter note, the Taos & Santa Fe ski resorts are having a record season so far...people are driving instead of flying to these locales...
...and, at the end of the year, Brad's health is improving, as witnessed by the creation of new shelving units for his studio...
And now, the event you've been waiting for! One year in the making! Without further delay, let me present...
