...Sesame Street South Africa will introduce an HIV+ muppet...these shows do not appear on US networks...7/13/02: buffalos excaped from a ranch and roamed the streets of the South Valley; they were all rounded up by the next day...US military has to be able to strike without warning (whatever that means)...al-Qaeda may have training camps in OR or WA state...7/13/02: the Laguna Pueblo Post Office was set on fire twice...arson & burglary are suspected...it is a total loss, with the walls & roof melted to the ground...the second time occurred after the fire crews had left the scene...the Tesuque Pueblo claims that the Pojoaque Pueblo is using three times as much water as needed, and that Casino Hollywood is operating illegally...the state tried to take away the ability for Navajos to police their nation if they built a casino in NM; in the end, the proposal was voted down...7/13/02: deadly crash on I-40 when 2 18-wheelers collide, killing one of the drivers...the A/C is 100 years old!...Progress? fire destroys a home in ABQ; not much to tell except it was under construction and water pipes have not been added to that area yet...Heaven with a zip code!...TV description of a golf course...Operation: D.C., for debit card...some New Mexico sherrifs wear T-shirts with a badge sewn on...the third week of July is the start of chili season!...car prices may increase by 4% for 2003 models...

...shades of Fairfax, VA...in Rio Rancho (aka Suburbia), 2 teens planned for 2 weeks the death of teen A's parents & 16 year old sister for money...teen A told his parents he heard a noise outside his window...the father went outside...teen B went into teen A's home, and hit teen A's mother with a hammer several times...teen B attacked his own father...they were going to burn the bodies on the West Mesa, file a missing person report, and split the insurance money...instead the pair were caught by the police, and could face 25 years in jail...the pair are claiming they're innocent...a NE girl created Operation: Kill Parents, with instructions on how to murder them...on I-25, a person was struck while crossing the highway...then a newspaper truck ran over the corpse...the second driver said he didn't do anything wrong because the body was already dead!...

...7/15/02: crews stopped looking for bodies at the WTC in NY...6 designs are being reviewed to replace the previous structures...7/19/02: a town meeting of 5,000 NYC citizens met & eliminated 4 of the 6 proposals immediately; the remaining two were mildly approved...the major complaint is that there is no symbol or memorial statue planned for the site to honor the victims & their relatives...all plans will eliminate the victims' footprints that are burned into the ground...this, New Yorkers strongly oppose...the NY Port Authority, which owns the land, is demanding that the same amount of office space (11 million square feet) be available in order to collect the same amount of rental revenue...in the end, all the choices were rejected...

...7/22/02: Red Sox fans flocked to Fenway Park to say goodbye to Ted Williams a final time Monday, coming by the thousands to pay their respects to the 83-year-old Kid at a celebration to honor a baseball and war hero...

...7/21/02: a car backs into a natural gas well head near Farmington, which triggers an explosion that kills the driver & severely burns the passenger (who died on 7/22/02), and sends flames 15 to 20 feet in the air for over 4 hours!...

...during the second week in July, a Ruidoso police officer was caught on tape cuffing & beating a suspect (female) for no reason...7/23/02: the victim told her side of the story on national TV...that same day her parents were interviewed on KOAT-TV, local Channel Seven...7/29/02: a $1/2 million out of court settlement has been reached...7/26/02: Dr. Heidman, from UPA Hem./Onc., appeared on KOAT-TV to discuss a rare brain tumor that steals the sight from its victims...in particular, Jaden Patel of Santa Fe suffers from the disease...he is 95% blind in one eye...as of now, chemo treatment is the only answer...

Location, Location, Location!

...during the third week in July a 38,000 acre fire builds in size to 50,000 acres in CA, and threatens the tall, ancient ones in the Sequoia Natl Forest...however, the intense heat will open the pine cones, burn away the underbrush and do little damage to the actual trees...but, the weather is quite windy, the conditions are very dry, so there is a chance the fire may harm these natural wonders...8/9/02: the park is reopened with no damage to any of the trees; the fire has burnt over 100,000 acres, and is heading towards the north 3...men died while fighting the 1,500-acre fire in the Klamath Natl Forest some 20 miles south of the Oregon border...7/26/02: the fire ban has been lifted from the Lincoln, Carson, Santa Fe, Cibola & Gila Natl Forests...plus the Bandelier Natl Monument...heavy rains early Wed. AM, slight chance in PM, greater chance during the weekend...75% humidity at 5 AM on 7/24/02...not as many showers during Wednesday night, a loud clap of thunder & a quick downpour on 7/25/02, followed by a thunderstorm late in the evening; again, with lots of rain...people in Durango now have to fear flash foods after the devastion from the Missionary Ridge fire, which cost $40 million to get under control...in NM, 140,000+ acres have burned, 100,000+ in natl. forests...

Remember...a disgruntled park worker may set your forest on fire!

...7/24/02: St. Joseph's Radiology Dept. has an outbreak of scabies; complete decontamination was completed by day's end...shooting victim found in the parking garage at SunPort...5-year old shoots 3-year old brother in face with a gun found in his mother's purse (police officer)...the victim will recover...girl bites through masking tape "handcuffs" to free herself from her captives...St. Louis: girl kidnapped & killed by drifter...her father invited him to stay the night...7/25/02: 9 men trapped in PA flooding coal mine...7/27/02: all rescued, & all alive...will stay in the Johnstown hospital for a day or two as a precautionary measure...all are quickly recovering...enjoyed doughnuts as their first meal...many of them do not want to return to their jobs...Disney has already bought the book rights...

...7/24/02: Mike Meyers become the 2,200 "star" on the Hollywood Walk of Fame...his career includes such films as Wayne's World, 54 & 3 Austin Powers movies...Yeah, baby!, Goldmember takes in $71.5 million, the highest weekend ever for a comedy...a Scoobie Doo sequel will be ready in 2003!...8/4/02: Mel Gibson has his biggest weekend box office ($60+ milllion) with Signs...

...7/25/02: Great news! Brad went to take a drug test in order to work at BC/BS as a Claims Examiner, starting 8/5/02...he first went to Indian School & Tramway (using the Menaul bus), then to Montano near I-25 to drop off the specimen...there will be 5 weeks of training...8/1/02: call from BC/BS; they screwed up his tests, so he spent almost 5 hours retracing the above route...Brad also discovered that the Broadway bus will take him directly to work...WinRock will be expanding, providing 1,000 construction jobs & 750 retail positions when finished...the bridge in OK which was struck by a barge reopened on 7/29/02; repairs took about 60 days! (quite a feat)...

An employee who is energetic at the end of a work week has an easy job!

...Strange!...son roasts in car while dad watches a strip show in Las Vegas...woman sues Jordache jeans, claiming a stitching needle in the waist of her paints caused severe nerve damage...man sues NY fast food restaurant for making him obese...while ABQ encourages xeriscaping, and will give owners rebates for the supplies, city neighborhoods have covenants which require each home in their area to have some grass in their yard...the penalty could be hazing by people who live near them, or even a lawsuit...for a week, a 3' long alligator has been roaming the South Valley...random drug tests for Deming HS athletes; court overrules students' privacy rights...7/30/02: after all the ranting of higher gas prices, they drop by 2 cents...after so many months, there may be an answer to the pension fund in the near future (I still will not hold my breath!)...

...7/26/02: heavy rain south of the city...Gallup received 1 inch of rain in a 24-hour period...the Meandering Monsoon Moisture...because of the drought, this has been the year with the fewest tornados since 1988...those that do form are weak, have less wind speed & quickly break apart...there is a heat advisory for the mid-Atlantic region, with the heat index as high as 108 degrees!...the south will be steamy as Geri visits Atlanta & the NLP Convention takes place in Norfolk, VA!...SE NM bakes every day in the low 100s'...7/29/02: storms east & south of the city, not here, but gusts up to 45+ mph; better chance of rain on 7/30/02...final result: nada!...and Atlanta is sizzling!...a Code Purple alert is issued for DC during the last week in July...

...7/29/02: the Long Mesa fire has burnt 30+ acres near the Natl Monument...the park has been evacuated of the 2,000 tourists & employees...some of the park office buildings have been destroyed; and, as of 7/30/02 AM, 700 acres have burned...by PM, that number had risen to 2,000, then to 2,300, then 2,600 by 8/2/02, 30% contained; the flames were nearing the cliff dwellings...no additional structures have been damaged...fire should be 100% contained by 8/4/02; the park should reopen by 8/10/02...in 2000, Mesa Verde was shut down the entire summer due to fires, which resulted in economic disaster for CO tourism & 28,000 acres burnt...the lowest chance of rain is in the 4 Corners area, where a high pressure has sat stationary for weeks, cutting off the moisture flow; this may change by the weekend...fires have consumed over 300,000 acres in OR; there are two fires still burning that have destroyed 178,000 acres, and up to 180,000 by the end of July...a 30 mile wall of fire is burning in OR...8/3/02: the 2 fires are close to merging, having burnt 190,000 acres..8/10/02: one huge fire, which has burnt over 330,000, has grown to 344,000 acres & is sweeping through OR...18,000 acres have burned near Julian, CA...AmTrak derails near Kensington, MD, injuring 101 passengers; all 13 cars fall off the track, 6 end upside down...the heat may have expanded the tracks, plus a freight train used that same route minutes before the crash...temps will reach 100 degrees in DC...another AmTrak derails near Flagstaff, but no injuries...40 dead whales wash ashore in Cape Cod (Dennis), MA...8/1/02: a BIA firefighter has been arrested for starting 5 blazes in the Mescalero Indian reservation...by 8/1/02, 4 million acres have burned across the country...
