...I have no problems telling people that I have financial problems...the same is true when speaking to credit card companies on the phone...no one is curious when I sign my E-mail Mike W. at work...


...6/30/03: WHAM-O co-founder Arthur Melin dies at 77 from Alzheimer's, he created the hula hoop & the frisbee...Rosemary Clooney dies at 74 from lung cancer...George Clooney's aunt received a lifetime Grammy award earlier this year...the new color for M&M is purple...KOAT won the Best Station of the Year from the NM Broadcasters Assc....


...near Cuba, NM, farmers are selling cattle early, because there is no grass for food due to the lack of water...usually a herd is sold in September...


...during the Fourth of July holiday, Americans are told to be vigilant for terrorists attacks...but why would someone want to attack a prime location on a special day...by mid-July, heightened security enforced at CA landmarks again, including Universal Studios & Disneyland, based on photos & diagrams discovered at an al-Qaeda base in Spain...speaking of Spain, it is in the midst of a conflict with Morocco over a Mediterranean island...


...although the price of gas is lower than last year, it is higher than last week...7/22/02: gas increased in price 6 cents from Friday to Monday...


...I Don't Wanna Be a Star!...7/2/02: casting call in ABQ...a Hollywood film needs 1,000 extras when they begin shooting in NM...at 12:01 AM on 7/4/02, Julia Roberts was married at her ranch in Taos...


...7/1/02: Brad had an interview with Pesbyterian Hosp, for a job answering calls...7/2/02: met with BCBS for a Claims Examiner position...on 7/10, he will try to fill the Accounting Manager vacancy, and will go for another interview on 7/11...I can tell Brad wants to feel needed...the calls help maintain his optimism...and being employed will make him very happy...


...2 Afghan leaders have been killed in early July...during that same time frame, the US unintentionally killed 14 citizens at a wedding in AFG...


...WalMart & Motel 6 are 40!...Krispy Kreme is 65!; to celebrate they created an 18 foot high cake, made of doughnuts (of course)!...7/11 is 75!...


...the apartment complex should be completely painted by the middle of July...the workers have coped with high temperatures & dust storms...Captain still does not like the sounds or smells from outside...Nancy likes the way we have decorated # 314...


...a security breach at Dulles...5,000 people & 30 flights were delayed when a knife was found on a bag in the rolling lounge carrying passengers to a plane...in the end, it was a harmless mistake...


...more security leaks...25% of concealed weapons failed to be detected at SunPort...the percentage is much higher in other airports around the country...2 pilots were going to fly an American West jet from Miami to Phoenix in a drunken state...they were apprehended at a security checkpoint, and arrested...


...7/4/02: an Egyptian shot & killed 2 people in the EL AL terminal at LAX...he appears to have planned & acted on his own...these & other issues have prompted the increase of security officers in public areas...except more patrols in the Concourse areas...more guards, more scrutiny...will it yield less freedom, more delays & higher fares...what price is the cost of freedom...the major US airports will have additional guards by the end of 2002...the timetable has changed; by 11/19/02, the Federal government will take control of security at avrious airports around the country...


...on top of this, most major airlines are permanently discontinuing their 10% senior citizen discount...


...50th annual UFO Festival in Roswell...the aliens arrived 7/7/47!...men's earrings look like they should be on a Prince Albert...ironing in the hallway will turn on the A/C...

...the monsoon season has begun!...there has been some rain (sometimes very small amounts; but, nevertheless) since 7/3/02 across the state...7/7/02: at 7 AM, the humidity was 75%...7/8/02: 59% humidity at 5 AM...downpours through the day...7/9/02: same time, 68% humidity...7/17/02: 67%...7/10/02: a PM thunderstorm with lots of off & on rain...7/11/02: some lightning, some rain...in all, ABQ has received two-thirds of an inch of rain in the last 9 days...7/12-14/02: dry & hot...7/18/02: showers, sometimes heavy downpours, scattered around ABQ...saw them at work, nothing at home...7/19/02: rain (again, heavy at times) over various parts of the city...the winds speed went up & the temperature went down (just like the stocks; see down)...some locations, such as Valencia County, received over 6 inches of rain...water in the arroyos was up to 2 feet deep, flowing at 30 mph...the same is true for 7/20/02: off & on showers from midday into the evening...during the third week of July there is a chance, however slight, of rain each day...7/21/02: heavy rain & storms around midnight, and night rain doesn't evaporate as much...7/22/02: soupy, very humid (73% by 5 AM), warmer at 5 AM (71 degrees) than at 1 PM (68 degrees)...the day had sunshine, rain, wind & showers...sudden heavy rains in Gallup flood the downtown & rail station areas...it was just as humid inside as outside..


...7/3/02: enjoyed green chili cheeseburgers & onion rings at the Owl Cafe, then picked up 2 black cartridges for the printers, plus a long telephone cord to hook up Brad's modem...Brad made wonderful butterscotch pudding!...


...a streaker romps through the Wimbledon games...should road blocks be placed around the Santa Fe plaza, following the death of a tourist who was struck by a vehicle...every fashionable ABQ woman has to have a toe ring...attempted suicides by coworkers appear to improve my health...add Quest & Bristol Meyers to the list of mismanaged companies, plus AOL Time Warner & Daimler Chrysler...the new phrase to explain the problem is accounting irregularities...VP Cheney is under scrutiny, he was CEO of a company that also had questionable accounting practices...he is also on a video from 1996 in which he supports the Andersen firm...however, it is the Federal Government that has the worst bookkeeping procedures!...7/15/02: Wall Street may continue its decline this week!...it did, plunging 400 points in the AM, but rebounding to a loss of less than 100 points...President Bush, 7/15/02: The economy is fundamentally strong!...7/16/02: these beliefs were echoed by Alan Greenspan (we are poised for a strong growth in the economy!), but the stock market still went down...it is a Bear Market, the worse in 25 years! (see more)...


...INTEL will lay off 4,000 workers acroos the country, 5% located in NM...but another area of the company is starting a new project, which will create more technical positions...200 jobs will be gone in 3-5 years when the Dept. of Energy pulls out of NM, and moves back to DC...only 13% of NM companies plan to hire...this state is 3-6 months behind the national economic trends...on the horizon is a plan to create a group, similar to Babylon 5's Night Watch, called TIPS...its intent is report suspicious activities in public places, using such groups as mailmen & truck drivers...

...7/10/02: Mike's quiet (sigh) birthday...his birthday is the same (including age) as Mr. Tenant of PSB...


...cops in LA & OK City (claiming it was justified) are caught on tape beating people they have arrested...


...in 2003, the Duke City will have a baseball stadium at University & Avenue de Cesar Chavez...there will be no bleechers, all separate seats...there is a Title Wave Book Shop in NE ABQ...middle aged men like to wear form fitting (aka "tight") jeans in this city!...


...one of the most dreaded phrases known to mankind...and other duties as necessary!...


Where have all the emuliants gone?


...the recent wind & rain have scattered Wet Paint signs all over the complex; on the parking lot, on trees and on the garbage bin!...in the West, from CA to ID & MT, 100+ heat scorches that area...in the New England & mid-Atlantic states, record low temperatures (40s' & 50s') add an unexpected chill to that area...El Nino is beginning to form; it will cause a split in the weather patterns, sending more winter storms into the Southwest...Captain enjoys the kitchen door open at night so he can explore that area in the dark...7/11/02: Brad begins restoring the front porch back to the way it was (with new touches)...some of his recent gourmet creations include Curried Pork w/rice & w/low mein noodles...one must not forget the pork loin Veracruz w/Cascabel & Grapefruit Sauce...or Sauce Marchand du Vin (mushroom wine sauce with beef stock, butter & sauce Espagnole) or the Cucumber & Onion Salad w/heavy cream, sugar & vinegar...then there is the Carrot & Raisin Salad with nuts, mayonnaise & sour cream...gotta go, I'm getting hungry!...
...lots of events, few finales...no one cares about the end; by that time, it's become boring...we ride the wave of excitement and fear...the beginning has drama, terror or thrills; who really cares or wants to know about the end?...when it's done, there's nothing, and who wants that!...its appeal and value are gone...


...Men in Black 2 tops the movie charts for the second week; on week three, it falls to third place...Reign of Fire, a story about prehistoric dranges in Futuristic London, managed to land the third place position...


...the best part of the week is Friday evening plus Sunday morning & early afternoon; the worst, Saturday & Monday mornings & Sunday evening...


Silence is strength, power & a formidable weapon!


...7/16/02: for whatever reason, today I was glad to live at the top of the complex, to be away from people...but I would love to be in a secluded cabin in northern NM or central AZ, Pan Asian in DC, or on the mid-CA coast...just Brad, Captain & myself...


...July is National Hot Dog Month; 7/21/02 is National Hot Dog Day...the most favorite recipes are beans & franks, pigs in a blanket & beer battered hot dogs...


...currently I am less concerned about global events, and more on national & state and/or area news, like the stock market, Dick Cheney & big businesses using creative number logic to count for money spent...
