And so, it will have begun!

…8/15/03: it was another hot & humid day in NYC…but there were no major storms across the entire nation…8/16/03: 63º @6:30 AM…Tropical Storm Erika hit landfall early in the AM…at the Tex-Mex border…winds are 70 mph…as it moves west, it may get swept into our monsoonal moisture flow…we may see its impact by 8/18 or 8/19/03…

…8/15-8/17/03: the “Hawgust Hawgfest” is held in Carlsbad (just in case someone doesn’t like bats!)…the person with the 500,000th ticket to the ABQ Isotopes game won a trip to Orlando…this was the first time the winner had been to a baseball game…if he physically abuses me, it’s over…Dr. Behnken survived Day 1 as the attending I/P PEDS MD…she agrees with the 2-person team…more time to see each patient…in the past, she was responsible for as many as 30 patients, in various areas of the hospital…now, her workload is 10-15 children…after speaking with her & Dr. Handmaker, a medical student asked me if I review notes for accuracy...that is part of it...I ensure that the necessary information appears in the chart notes, in order to satisfy insurance companies & avoid the dangers of fraud...

…Idi Amin, the “butcher of Uganda”, who killed more than 500,000 of his countrymen, died at the age of 80…he fled to Saudi Arabia, where the former dictator lived in luxurious exile…Prince Harry is not going to college (for now)…he plans on joining the British military…

...8/16/03: Brad's lower back is hurting him...I said that's because he's becoming more active again...I rubbed him with medicated lotion...he will visit a chiropractor after he chops up the ingredients for his gazpacho...

...8/16/03: cool & cloudy…little, if any, rain…enjoyed Thai tea…very smooth…no need for sugar…saw “Spy Game” with Robert Redford & Brad Pitt…a very good movie with multiple storylines that weaved into each other…the BRAVO! Channel is 23 year old…8/17/03: 61º @7 AM; 75% humidity…we are enjoying the cool weather…but the storm named Erika is dying too quickly in Mexico…no chance of any remnants heading towards NM…but, there is the chance of hot, dry weather by the end of the week…thrills!...this is the 5th year for drought in the Navajo Nation…it will take 4 very good years to reverse the damage…

…Captain is “screened” on a nightly basis…it doesn’t appear to bother him…

…there is a copycat sniper in the area of Charleston, WV…the CA recall may be switched from 10/7/03 due to counties not prepared for this impromptu “election”…the 2nd Microsoft “bug” is a “bomb”…

…3 high tension electricity wires in OH snagged a tree…but, most power lines are overloaded and 50 yrs. old!...there are still rolling blackouts in Canada…water must be boiled in OH…raw sewerage is washing onto the beaches of Lake Erie…

…Tiger Woods has had 14 min., 59 seconds of fame…he is not doing well in the current golf tournament…the Wizard of Oz premiered on 8/16/39…the 1st B&W/color movie to be made…a blue lobster was caught off the coast of NH…its life will be spared…

…8/17/03: Brad forgot to get scallions…he went to the Farmers’ Market while I stayed home…alone…Brad thinks I should talk to a more professional counselor than Erik…Phyllis E-mailed me with her thoughts after the death of Ernie…she was with him when he passed away…

…8/18/03: 1st Energy CORP of OH appears to be responsible for the blackout…it will cost $56 million to overhaul the power grid...there is already talk of higher utility bills in our future!…NASDAQ starts the week over 1700 points…the Dow ends the day at 9400+!...fire threatens homes S of Missoula, MT…50 new fires started during this past weekend in that state…some CA counties have outdated voting machines!…major problem for recall…

…8/18/03: audio tape from al-Qaeda tells Muslims that Osama bin Laden is still alive…his followers should begin the Jihad against westerners…5,000 senior citizens may have died in France due to dehydration & hypothermia…heavy rains fall in Spain (this is not a joke!)…the US is one of the top 5 countries that are attractive targets for terrorists…another 9/11 event is quite possible…peace deal in Liberia ends 3-year civil war?…

…8/18/03: wore tie & new white shirt…buttoned collar does not crush my neck…Brad going to Nancy’s chiropractor today @2:30…the same place as his “former” DC, 7100 Menaul…Nancy will give him a ride there…when he returns home, Brad feels better…another visit on 8/21/03 @1:30…Brad gave Nancy some gazpacho…she enjoyed it!...we enjoyed it, too @supper...UH has PC with the flat screen monitor & tower combined (by Dell)…seen on chart; “w/some pussy d/c”!?…unusually quiet day in our area…

…I have no complete privacy to talk to Erik, either at home or work…needed top sheet to keep warm…for me, sometimes a blanket…I also never find time to play music at home…this is true for both weekends & weekdays…but I enjoy creating a “rough draft” of my notes…then add the bells & whistles at home…less worry about accessing the Internet to create my web page…now I can paste & touch-up…with some of the necessary attributes…less stress at night, needing to both type & embellish what I write…more time to look for .jpg & .gif art…

…8/15/03: man in Placitas, NM has built a house that is “handicap friendly”…there are no sills, mobile commodes & cabinets, lower sinks & bathtubs, higher outlets, easy to use door knobs and light switches…the man is an architect…his wife has scoliosis…the house is of the “transgenerational” design…very user friendly…faucets can reach pots on the stove…there are big security peepholes at the front door…and the cost was $300,000…but money well spent for the woman he loves…

…8/15/03: left work @11…enjoyed another great meal at the Ming Dynasty…a combination of Dim Sum items & orange flavor beef…then to the Swiss Alps Bakery…which had an assortment of prices that ranged from the reasonable to the ridiculous…off to a bead shop on Menaul…then home…then to Wal-Mart…then could not figure out who was honking at us…Rudy, our barber…stopped by his shop to argue & show him a mineral speciman...he did the same to us, a sample found in AZ...the Navajo Nation has reported 2 horses with the W Nile Virus…while watching the news on the East Coast Blackout, New Mexicans are amazed that people use public transportation to get to work…on Police TV, there was a chase down I-25 south, N of ABQ...the car was turbo charged, and the police could not overtake it...so the cops radioed trucks to assist in the persuit...an 18-wheeler made the getaway car swerve into the median...it go back onto the road, pulled to the side...and surrendered...

…8/15/03: 66º @5AM…½ the towel fell into the shower…Captain & I were fighting…he scratched me…twice!...I am like a Neanderthal…a little rain today…maybe some on 8/16/03…then we wait to see what Erika does…

…8/14/03: 50 million people were without electricity just after 4 PM EST…this is “not a terrorist attack”…the affected areas were NY state, NJ, upper & lower MI, Ontario [Toronto & Ottawa]; parts of VT; northern OH [Cleveland, Akron, Toledo]; Hartford & western CT…most people are not panicking…not Boston or DC or MD...or RI or NH or ME…an overloaded power grid @Niagara Falls?...lightning?...8 PM, and power is slowly being restored to NYC…may take hours, not minutes…this was a “natural occurrence”…9 nuclear plants were shut down…8 PM, and not sure what exactly happened…a similar event took place on 11/9/65…

…8/15/03: parts of the USA & Ontario do not are "powerless"…about 9,300 square miles affected…no NYC subway service…no trains except AMTRAK…just [shuttle] buses…more hot, humid weather for the East Coast, and no A/C in NYC!...many people did not panic, probably due to the ripple effect of 9/11…some tourists slept on the streets of Manhattan…there were no hotel rooms, and their car was stuck in an elevated car-park…MI is still in the dark…so is much of Ontario…NM is part of the 13-state western power grid...they experienced a similar situation to today's outage in 1996…storms were to blame for the blackout in Farmington for a few hours on 8/14/03…and PNM is constantly upgrading & developing new technology…but, on 3/18/2000, 360,000 people lost power in NM…the cause was due to a fire…GOV Richardson was the SEC’Y of Energy from 1998-2001…his comment was that too much electricity flows through an antiquated power grid…hackers could sabotage any computerized energy system in 2-4 hours…

…early 8/16/03: power has been restored to most areas except SE MI, and parts of Ontario, where there are rolling blackouts…NYC subways began moving @7 AM...approx. 10 million people remain in the dark…midday 8/16/03: the power is on in the remaining affected US areas...but gas pumps are not working in MI...water restrictions remain in Cleveland...the original completion time was SUN evening, 8/18/03…there is a Lake Erie power loop that flows clockwise from Erie to Cleveland to Detroit to Ottawa...this is the new blame location…a counterclockwise surge entered the grid…this energy flux was not detected or stopped…what happened to the built-in safeguards?...have electricity regulations been ignored?...”our vulnerable infrastructure”…cell phones did not work in NYC…some people without power for 30+ hours…

...8/1/03: another tape was played on Arab TV...it was dated 7/27/03, and was the voice of Saddam Husein...his message; Oust US forces!...the informant who revealed where Saddam's sons were located has been paid the $30 million in one lump sum payment...we are being told that finding WMD will take time...Democrats are upset...this was their basis of supporting the war...the gay priest wishing to become a bishop waits for the vote to be taken during the first weekend in August...8/4/03: delays due to an E-mail received in which the sender charges the priest with improperly "touching" a straight man, and creating a web site that features porn...and so the investigation begins...US Catholics are more lenient to same-sex marriages than the Vatican...President Bush had his routine physical @Bethesda Naval Hospital...now he is on a month-long vacation at his ranch in Crawford, TX...there is a black pastor who is paying whites of various ethnic classes to attend mass at his church...the rate is based on the day of the week...N Korea has dropped the demand for 1 on 1 talks with the US...talks will take place between Russia, China, Japan, the US and N & S Korea...but N Korea says any meeting with the UN on this subject would be a prelude to war...the Liberian president will begin his exile in Nigeria as of 8/11/03...52 soldiers have died in Iraq since Bush declared that the war was over!...

...8/1/03: where did July go?...this was a bad head day!...and the case of the criss crossed communications!...I went to bed @ 7:30...there was another truck rollover, this time in San Ysidro...Mayor Chavez has not been wearing glasses at recent interviews...a controlled burn took place of marajuana, cocaine & meth...going up in smoke...what does it take to get rain to fall in ABQ?...there are showers in Tucson...for the fourth day in a row, 29 Palms, CA has flooded roads, thanks to our heavy monsoon rains...maybe the high pressure will slide over TX this week...there are T'storms near Tulsa...severe storms in E NM...8/2/03: Bismarck, ND had the coolest temp of the US major cities; 52 degrees!...8 million copies of Hilary Clinton's book have been sold...UNM has its first Hispaniac president, Louis Caldera...


...8/2/03: had a very good meal at the 66 Diner...this place returns you to the 50s'...and we got a coaster for a sounvenir...I had green chili cheese burger w/fries (that were not greasy at all!)...Brad had a Frito Pie, much better than the one at the Knoxville World's Fair...Brad made great guacomole...enjoyed The Bourne Identity w/Matt Damon...and there is a Fab 5 entering today's world in the series Queer Eye for the Straight Guy...a My Fair Lady makeover that includes revamping the place of residence!...amusing & amazing!...


...Susan Lucci is married for the 10th time on All My Children...Liza Minelli, in real life, is divorced for the ? time...


If a marriage is a union between a man & a woman, then is a union a marriage between 2 men &/or 2 women?


...8/2/03: Captain stayed the night in my bathroom...when I saw him in the morning, he was resting on the rug...water pipes broke @Candelaria & Pennsylvania NE due to construction in that area...3 others were due to the hot weather...the heat weakens the concrete & asphalt, causing it to collapse, strike the pipes and cause the water to erupt...the Congress is still talking about a Constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriages...through history, it is only signified the bond between a man & a woman, for the purpose of creating a family...oh, really? says who?....why is a law needed, and why is it a priority item in a time of economic confusion?...aren't we Americans smart enough to define & determine what "marriage" means to us?...
